Mental development delay: what parents need to know

Mental development delay (MDD) is a condition in which a child’s development is slower than that of their peers. It is important to understand that this is not a sentence, but a characteristic that can and should be worked on.
Children with MDD may:
– start speaking later,
– have difficulty concentrating,
– tire quickly from intellectual activities,
– experience difficulties communicating with their peers.
What can parents do?
– Consult specialists (speech therapist, psychologist, defectologist) for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment.
– Create a supportive environment at home — a daily routine, simple tasks, games to develop attention and memory.
– Be patient and supportive — comparing them to other children is harmful, while praising even small achievements helps them move forward.
– Work with teachers and specialists at the center — only together can results be achieved.
Most importantly, children with SLI have great potential. With early support and corrective programs, they can learn, develop, and find their place in the world.
Remember: every child has their own path and pace. The task of parents is to be there and help them take small steps toward big victories.
