Why is it important to develop fine motor skills in children?
17.07.2025
Fine motor skills are the ability to perform precise movements with the fingers. And although it seems that this is only about tying shoelaces or drawing, in fact, fine motor skills directly affect the overall development of a child.
Here’s why it’s so important:
Speech development
Fine motor skills are linked to the functioning of the speech centers of the brain. The more active the fingers are, the faster the child begins to speak.
Concentration and attention
When manipulating small objects, a child learns to focus, plan actions, and follow through.
Development of independence
Getting dressed, eating with a spoon, buttoning buttons — all of this is impossible without well-developed fine motor skills.
Preparation for writing
Finger movements prepare a child for writing — they develop strength, coordination, and precision in the hand. At the World of Opportunities center, we work daily on developing fine motor skills, because every movement is a step toward new skills, success, and self-confidence.
