Semen’s Story

Back in February, Semen barely spoke. He hardly used words to communicate; it was difficult for him to express his desires, to address an adult, or to explain what he wanted or was feeling.

Today, we’re seeing a completely different trend. Semen is learning new words. He’s already pronouncing some of them more clearly. And most importantly—he’s gradually starting to use speech not just in class, but in everyday life: to address others, to ask for things, to respond, and to be heard.

To some, a single new word might seem like a small step. For a child who previously hardly spoke at all, it’s a huge victory. We see changes not only in his speech.

Semen has come to better understand his daily schedule; he knows what’s coming next, transitions more easily from one activity to another, and is gradually getting used to the rules and daily routine. He knows our center. He knows his specialists. He knows where he’s come and what awaits him here. And along with this comes something without which a child’s development is nearly impossible—a sense of security and predictability.

And there’s another side to this story—his mom. The opportunity to leave her child for the day and know that he’s not just “under supervision.”

That they’re working with him throughout the day. They’re teaching her to communicate. Helping her become more independent. Developing her social, behavioral, and daily living skills. Providing support where things are still challenging.

We continue to work with Semen—on speech, communication, behavioral skills, independence, and socialization. And what matters most to us isn’t just the number of sessions we’ve held, but seeing how the child gradually discovers new possibilities for himself.
